Harmony & Tranquility Restored At Mandara Spa Renaissance Kuala Lumpur

You know you are in a spa paradise as soon as you enter a spa which smells of spice, essential oils and all things nice. As soon as I entered the door of Mandara Spa at Renaissance KL, I was enveloped in their wonderful spa aroma. I was warmly greeted by all the staff there and ushered to their spacious waiting area and within a few minutes of being seated, served cold and refreshing ginger tea. Such was the beginning of my Mandara Spa experience.

Way before, I’d read many positive reviews about Mandara Spa so I did have high expectations in regard to their service. Mandara Spa at Renaissance is a two-storey spa located at the East Wing, next to the Fitness Center and easily accessible through the swimming pool level. Other than the usual body massages, they also offer relaxing foot massage, manicure and pedicure treatments.

Prior to the treatment, the therapist offers a choice of 4 essential oils:-

1. Mandara Oil – exotic patchouli & sandalwood for dry, sensitive and sunburnt skin.

2. Spice Island – ginger and nutmeg, not recommended for sensitive skins but good for sore muscles and aches.

3. Harmony – lavender, bergamot and mandarin to balance body and mind, good for blood circulation.

4. Tranquility – vetiver & lavender for distress, jet lag and insomnia.

I chose Harmony because I want better blood circulation. Sitting for hours at a time in front of the laptop does not improve blood circulation so I will take all the help I can get in that respect. I would have gone for Spice Island also as that one warms up the skin and has to be good for circulation too.

There are double and single Deluxe Spa Suites with en-suite bath and steam shower. The double room I was ushered into was so spacious. Even with a tub in the bath room, there was still plenty of room to move around in.

My treatment was their Signature Balinese massage (50 minutes but there’s a longer option), using stretching, long strokes, skin rolling and palm and thumb pressure techniques. It aims to relieve tension, improve circulation and create a feeling of well being. Even though I didn’t doze off, time seemed to stand still for the duration of the massage and it left me wishing it was a longer massage as I could have done with more kneading on my sore back and shoulders.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Mandara Spa and can understand why there’re so many rave reviews about their treatments. Their hospitality and service is nothing short of first class and they deserve the acclaim that they have received and will no doubt continue to receive.

Mandara Spa offers a membership programme which is surprisingly reasonably priced at just RM399 (inclusive of 6% government tax) and the package includes:-

2 Complimentary Balinese Massage vouchers

1  Complimentary Refresher Facial voucher

1 50% discount voucher for any Spa treatment

1 RM75 redemption voucher for any Spa treatment

One Complimentary Retail Gift

Membership is valid for one year and may be shared with friends and family.

  1. Wow, your description from the moment you step into the room up to the package is very details indeed! Good work! The package is indeed worth and reasonable for so many service!

  2. I usually go to the one at Sheraton imperial for the full body massage and scrub. It has always been my first choice as the therapist were really good and my skin would be really glowing. However recently i went twice last month and their service has deteriorated or either the new therapist is not doing her job well. First time she cut short my treatment by not scrubbing my abdomen and hip area, then i didn’t feel the relaxing long strokes, thumb/ palm rolling thing but rather short half hearted strokes on my back. I never had any complaints before as they were normally very thorough but this time it was bad. When i asked her why she didn’t do the scrub on my abs area/ chest she said they never do it but previously the other girls did it. Then second time i went no one told me that their hot water was under construction so i had to bath in freezing cold water after my scrub. I paid good money for a relaxing spa experience and not to be told half way there is no hot water. They didnt even bother to apologize. I am not sure if that therapist is lazy or its just my bad luck but i know i am not going back there. I will try out the Renaissance branch one day and i hope it would be better than the Sheraton one.
