DIY Jewellery Is Inexpensive But You’d Be Lucky If They Last 3 Months

dsc_0138Once in a while, I get a shopping addiction to something. For some weeks last year, I was buying a lot of essential oils, then I bought loads of fabric masks, brooches and scarves. I became an online shopaholic. Since Hari Raya this year, I got addicted to buying DIY jewellery, in particular bracelets. All the bracelets I have bought don’t cost more than RM50 but of course it all adds up if you bought something every week which is what I’d been doing.

The problem with DIY jewellery is that although the price is low, they don’t generally last long. I was sorting out my cats’ wet food on the table after lunch today when I noticed some black beads. To my horror, they were the loose black spinel from my bracelet. This is a bracelet I bought barely 3 months ago and I haven’t been wearing it that much either.

Since I was a child, I have never been interested in crafts and hated arts class. I know the bracelet can be repaired but that would involve looking for replacement black spinel, I think I lost more than the 4 little beads on the table. So I decided to just chuck it into the bin and if anything can get me off my DIY jewellery addiction, this would probably be it. It cost RM19 but I don’t think it’s worth the price – I’d have been more okay if it’d lasted at least 6-12 months. Not durable at all.
