A Rolling Brush Gathers The Foundation

What will they think of next? L’oreal Roll’ on True Match Foundation has been available in Malaysia for a few months although in other parts of the  world, it has been available for years. Some products arrive at our shores very late.

It is an innovative product because I don’t know of any other beauty brand that has come up with a roller foundation. Said to create an airbrushed effect, it is designed to create flawless-looking skin because L’oreal noted that liquid foundation needs to be blended expertly in order for it to look flawless and natural on the skin which can lead to undesired results such as uneven coverage, streaks especially along the side of the jawline and around hard-to-reach facial contours, and a cakey finish due to poor blending techniques.

Rolling on the foundation is a 3-step process which seems fairly easy even for make-up novices:-

  1. Firmly roll the Roll’ On Applicator over your True Match Foundation. For best results, roll across the foundation four to five times to pick up the ideal amount of foundation.

  2. Lightly glide onto skin. Starting from the centre of your face, roll the applicator outwards and downwards until makeup is fully blended into skin. The more you roll the applicator over your skin, the finer the layer of foundation. Repeat until you achieve the desired coverage.

  3. For your nose, hold the applicator vertically and roll makeup onto skin. For eye area, hold the applicator horizontally and roll makeup onto skin.

So is it as easy as all that? When I used the product for the first time, I wasn’t sure I’d got enough product on to the roller even though I’d rolled it back and forth over the creamy foundation more than a couple of times. I followed the instructions but my skin still looked streaky as if the foundation wasn’t blended properly and evenly.

The roller is fine for reaching the less flat surfaces like the eye and nose areas. The foundation isn’t cakey nor does it feel heavy on my skin but I cannot say I was completely satisfied with the results. Somehow I still prefer the more conventional ways of applying foundation – either with a brush or fingers. Coverage is medium and for my dry skin, it had good staying power but I can’t say the same will apply for those with oily skins.

The reverse of the case can be used as a mirror if you peel off the sticker. Rose Vanilla isn’t really my shade as it has pinkish undertones but with 12 shades available, everyone is sure to be able to find a shade that suits them. However, I don’t think this is quite for me as I prefer liquid foundations.

This 7.5g foundation retails at RM76.90.

  1. I saw the other day and I was a little surprised by the price.Pretty expensive for a drugstore product. The coverage look pretty decent!

    1. You are right about the price, I also thought it was quite pricey for a drugstore product. Coverage is decent but you really need to iron out the streaks and not sure if this will last all day on oily skins?
