Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur Spreads Festive Joy With Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree Celebrating 40 Years Of Care

In a heartwarming celebration of giving and community, Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur proudly unveiled its Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree, a longstanding tradition that embodies the hotel’s unwavering commitment to supporting children in need through its Embrace the Gift of Life programme.

In his opening remarks, Mr. Daniel Kaeflein, General Manager of Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur, said, “The Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree is a symbol of hope, compassion, and community. For four decades, the Embrace the Gift of Life programme has transformed lives, and it is a privilege to continue this legacy during this special season.”

Since its inception in 1985, the Embrace the Gift of Life project has raised close to RM 6 million, funding vital corrective heart surgeries and medical interventions for hundreds of children. In 2024 alone, 13 children receivednlife-saving care, with support amounting to RM 590,348.

This year’s Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree, a magnificent rotating ten-tiered creation, stood proudly in the hotel’s main lobby, adorned with handcrafted Whimsical Ornaments. Each ornament was meticulously designed by award-winning Pastry Artist Chef Wayne Siow and his team, dedicating over 600 hours to craft the exclusive 40 Years of Care decorations. The ceremony was made particularly memorable by a graceful ballerina performance, which set a magical tone as guests assembled for the lighting of the ten-tiered rotating Christmas tree. The enchanting performance added a distinctive and captivating element to the event, elevating the festive spirit and making this year’s celebration truly exceptional. The tree stands as a heartfelt symbol of hope and festive cheer, inviting all who visit to share in its spirit.

The lighting ceremony brought together key partners, including representatives from Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur and Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, whose steadfast support has been crucial to the programme’s success.

Distinguished guests, Dr Lim Miin Kang, Consultant Paediatrician at Gleneagles Hospital, and Dr Siti Laura Mazalan, Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Pantai Hospital, joined in illuminating the tree, a poignant moment of solidarity and compassion.

Special recognition was given to the refugee children from the UNHCR community and children with special needs from Taman Megah Home (Pusat Penjagaan Kanak-Kanak Cacat Taman Megah), who were treated to a festive Christmas High Tea at Lemon Garden, fostering warmth and celebration.

Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur’s dedication to community care is exemplified through nearly four decades of the Embrace the Gift of Life initiative. The Enchanted Wonders Christmas Charity Tree will remain on display throughout the festive season, inviting guests to contribute and bring hope to children in need.
