Day 5 Of ikhlas.com 7D/5N Tour To Turkey: Sleepless In Istanbul & An Early Breakfast In Gonen Hotel

My favourite fluffy and soft scrambled eggs

As usual, on the stroke of 3.30am, I was startled wide awake by the ghastly sound of my roommate snoring. Till today, I can’t get that sound out of my head. Some people snore softly, without interrupting your sleep but her snoring is enough to give anyone insomnia unless you are an even heavier snorer than her. This time, I was REALLY pissed off and held my phone towards her bed to record the snoring which went on and on.

Then I sent the recordings to the ikhlas.com tour guide just to prove I wasn’t making things up. It’s not that easy to roll over and go back to sleep. Her snoring was akin to a drill in my head, just terribly disturbing. My only consolation (if any) was that I just had to put up with my roommate from hell for just 1 more night. Someone in my tour group later remarked that the issue of my roommate was subjective. Try sharing a room with this Serial Snorer for 1 night and then tell me it’s subjective. If she doesn’t make you want to scream in silence, then you tell me it’s subjective.

6am and I jumped out of my bed to ready myself for the 6.30am breakfast. I was among the first to get to the coffee house at Gonen Hotel. This breakfast had a lot of choice, from an assortment of olives, yoghurt, breads and pastries to delicious scrambled eggs. I tried to stay there for an hour just so I could avoid going back to my room. It’s hard to stay civil to my roommate when all I wanted to do was tell her she was the most annoying person asleep. Someone to be taken in no doses at all, never mind small doses. I am still extremely traumatised by the entire experience. Imagine going to sleep every night knowing that you will eventually be jolted awake by 3.30am while the person disturbing your sleep is completely oblivious to the fact that they have deprived you of 3 hours of precious sleep every night.

Yoghurts
Olives
Breads
Cheese
Their jams are so good

Although I didn’t find their cheese particularly tasty (unlike those available in Malaysian hotel buffets), their jams (fig, strawberry, raspberry) were extraordinarily good. You could put these jams in mini ice cream cones which were so cute. That’s such a great idea as you can eat the remaining jams in your cones after you’re done spreading them on your toast.
